Why a Luau?
A lot of times, adults with special needs are overlooked in the community. Fellowship Bible Church saw this as an invitation to serve a group of people that are shied away from rather than flocked towards.
In addition to this, we were given an oppurtunity to unleash love and give these amazing people a glance into God's Kingdom! I have spent a lot of times thinking about what types of things Jesus Christ would be doing if he were still here. And when our church starting considering this idea, we knew that this was the way we were called to be serving our surrounding community. Jesus did not turn his back on people who were different, he befriended tax collectors, prostitutes, and helped people with disabilities to be cured and accepted. We figured that a Luau is a type of party that anybody, young, old, disabled, or typical, could enjoy! We wanted everybody, including the volunteers, to come and have a great time. We also wanted something that the community could see and say "Wow, I want to help with that!"
